How to Clean Your Barbecue Grill

After enjoying a delicious barbecue, most of us tend to forget the importance of cleaning the grill such that next time we make some barbecue on a clean and fresh grill. This is not only hygienic but it also prevents food from sticking to the bars when using it the next time. Cleaning a BBQ grill is not hard, not even after using it for a month. Difficulty in cleaning should therefore not be used as an excuse why your grill is always dirty. In case it still is, here is how to clean your barbecue grill.

Heat up your grill to carbonize the food particles

The first step to cleaning your natural gas grill is to make sure you heat it up such that the food particles bake off or carbonized. This usually makes them easier to clean than it would have been trying to clean them as fresh as they are. You therefore need to turn the heat on your charcoal or gas Barbecue on such that your grill turns red hot.  The baking off of the food particles would happen after putting the barbecue lid on for about 20 minutes after the heating.

Clean it thoroughly using the appropriate tools

Cleaning should follow after the particles are heated up. You however need to be sure the grill has cooled down to avoid barbecuing your fingers. Choose a steel brush as opposed to abrasive tools to effectively clean the bars. Abrasive cleaners can end up damaging your grill as the often eat up the metal. Each manufacturer usually specifies the right cleaners one should use on a particular grill so make a point of establishing that. Use some warm water mixed with soap or detergent together with the steel brush to clean. Brush through all angles so as access even the trickiest sections to reach on the grill. Rinse and store it properly

Once you are through with your cleaning you need to thoroughly rinse it at every inch of it to get ready of any detergent or soap on it. You then allow it to dry properly before applying some vegetable oil on it to stop rusting. Rusting is always a big problem that arises from the reaction of the water, the iron and oxygen. You should therefore make sure you always store it in a cool and dry place until the next time you need to use it.
